West Indian Manatee
Manatees are large, slow-moving animals sometimes called "sea cows."
They live in springs, rivers, bays and along the coast.
Manatees eat many different kinds of water plants.
Because manatees breathe air like we do they are often found near the surface.
Swimming near the surface can be dangerous for manatees because they are often injured or even killed by fast-moving boats.
